A Quirky Collection, But...

This is how quirky AM radio was in the 1960's. You would hear a song like "Turn Down Day" or "Young Girl", followed by "Flowers On The Wall", or "Just Like Me".

Popular radio was much more open in format back then (at least in L.A. where I grew up). Program directors mixed all kinds of genres together, rather than being limited to the narrow playlists of more recent formatted radio.

How 'classic' each of these songs are is subject to debate and personal preference, but each song had it's place on the 1960's airwaves.

Some Really Good Songs

This is a solid collection of original versions, with classics like "Red Rubber Ball" and "Kind of a Drag". A few of the choices seem a bit odd -- Tony Bennett's wonderful, but doesn't belong in this particular collection. And the heartfelt angst of Lenny Welch's "Since I Fell for You" also seems out of place next to the more frothy confections. All in all, though, well worth the money.
