Nothing short of monumental

The piano concertos of Franz Liszt and Edvard Grieg have been so often recorded that it might seem there is little new to be done with them, but in the hands of an artist like Stephen Hough with the agile collaboration of conductor Andrew Litton, there are new beauties to be discovered in them. This is especially true of the two Liszt pieces, dramatic and brilliantly structured works which quite belie the dismissal of Liszt as a second or third tier composer. Even if you already have recordings of these works (my Liszt reference recording till now was the time honored Sviatoslav Richter Mercury one), the Hough/Litton one deserves to be in your collection. Very highly recommended.
