Editors’ Notes Twenty-five years and twelve albums into her career, Aussie country legend Beccy Cole has seen some life changes (marriage, kids, multiple CMAA awards, divorce, remarriage) but one constant has been her sense of humor. Lioness tackles some serious subjects—family, faith, and relationships chief among them—but with Cole’s ever-present wit, the proceedings never become too heavy. The track titles themselves give a sense of the lighthearted mood: “My Wife’s Got Balls,” for instance, is a hilarious ode to Cole’s partner, Libby O’Donovan. “Wine Time” celebrates drinking with friends, while “Are You Coming Over?” toasts a more private party (refrain: “Are you coming over, or am I getting drunk?”). There are strikingly sober moments, too: “The Milliner” is a showstopping, heartbreaking ballad about Cole’s grandmother.
