With word circulating that The Libertines would reunite and release their third studio album later in 2015, it felt like odd timing for Carl Barat to issue his first solo work in five years just as the reunion whispers were turning into firm evidence. What his album suffers in promotion, it makes up for in pure rock ’n’ roll delight. Not wishing to work solo, Barat put out online advertisements to form The Jackals. The respondents do a fine job working the Clash/Libertines lines that drive the dub inflections of “Glory Days” and the tuneful midtempo track “A Storm Is Coming.”
