EDITORS’ NOTES

For the second installment of a planned series of three EPs, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor eases up a bit on the harsh, experimental noisescapes of initial volley Not The Actual Events. "Less Than" indulges Reznor's gifts for New Wave keyboard swells and danceable beats, while "Not Anymore" thrashes about with a near classic-rock swagger and a shout-along chorus. In contrast, "This Isn't the Place" and "The Lovers" are subdued, almost ambient ballads that display Reznor’s range and maturity by luxuriating in tangible sonic beauty.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

The Backround World

I came honestly to just buy this single. "The Backround World" I had already purchased the physical component. For me this single is the best thing since "The Fragile" it's the best track on the EP. It has so much feeling and I get completely sucked in and lost in the atmosphere of sounds. This EP sits beautifully next to albums like "The Fragile" & Downward Spiral. While I love records like "With Teeth and "Year Zero" something about this EP felt like why I fell in absolute love for Nine Inch Nails. If this is the direction the next EP Is going I am ecstatic. Trent Reznor you NAILED IT.

Don't like it.

Besides the first track, this is ambient soundstrack stuff. I read someone say that this goes back to his roots? Huh? It does not. Remember that he moslty scores movies now and such and has been collaborating with Atticus Ross now. I am a huge NIN fan and have been since Pretty Hate Machine, but that does not mean I have to like everything he releases. I asked a drummer from a well know heavy metal band I met at a local show why he wasn't playing heavy/fast music anymore, and this is what he said: I was tired of eating hamburgers everyday. I have to change it up. You get tired of eating the same thing everyday. I undertsand the change of direction that NIN has done with these last two EPs. All the styles and types of music we like isn't always going to be there, but I still do love and support Trent. He is a musical genius in my opinion. I hope his next full length album encorporates a little bit from all his albums. Mainly Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral.
