Editors’ Notes Janina Fialkowska, a noted Chopin interpreter, gives us a personal anthology of some of her favorite French piano music. And the selection is as imaginative as the playing. Fialkowska takes inspiration from her first visits to Paris in the ’50s and ’60s, an era of Francis Poulenc and Germaine Tailleferre, when Ravel, Debussy, and Fauré were a keenly felt presence. And her gorgeously colored pianism ensures that none of these composers will ever really disappear. The overall mood may be reflective and gently pensive, but Fialkowska’s poetic way with the music guarantees great variety and a striking range of hues and tones. An enchanting album.
