The Beginnings of Perhaps the Most Epic Band Ever...

While, not quite the beginning. Their demos are pretty good too. But this is an excellent album. While they don't yet have the super-clean production, epic compositions, or the orchestrations of their more recent works, there is a lot of material here, and all of it is excellent. Really, there is not a bad track on here for fans of good epic metal. "Warrior of Ice", "Lord of Thunder", and the epic title track hint at the greatness to come, while "Land of Immortals" is a concert staple to this day. Everything else is wonderful too, but those ones especially stand out. By the way, "Ira Tenax" and "Virgin Skies" are shorter, orchestral pieces, but don't skimp on buying them because this album is really telling a story and it's quite a bit nicer with the interludes.

In conclusion, if you even remotely like this kind of stuff, buy it, because it's a masterpiece. Don't expect anything brutally heavy or compley and prog-y, but if you want epic music, this is defenitely the way to go.
