EDITORS’ NOTES

Detroit’s Royce da 5'9" is something of a rapper’s rapper: hard-working, well connected, indifferent to trends but passionately dedicated to the craft. And he brings it all together on Layers with textbook boom bap, as confident and cinematic as it is cool. “Highest exalted/Call me commercial?/I’m highly insulted,” he drawls on “Shine,” delivering a workingman’s credo that surfaces again on the album’s title track, alongside Pusha T and Rick Ross: “I philosophize with wise words from learned lessons/In my world, mistakes turns to blessings.” Not that he’s too humble to flex when he’s ready—just listen to “Hard.”

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

royce gets better with time

It feels good to still have hip-hop artists that can actually RHYME nowadays in which Royce has already been cemented in this game for years. Unfortunately we're in an era where creativity lacks substance & anyone can hop in the sound booth & press a record button & drop anything. The art of strorytelling & lyricism has definitely become scarce im just happy that this guy is still here droppin' bars so I've happily pre-ordered this album...

Sincerely,

Hip-Hop Fan 4-Life...

So Underrated

It’s unbelievable that Royce gets no love. Tabernacle was better than every song on Kendrick’s new album (which is the #1 album in America)
