Lado A Lado B

Lado A Lado B

Considered a true sonero since his debut in 1993, Victor Manuelle has always had the individual style and improvisational skills necessary to rise above the narrow, commercial connotations of the salsa romántica label. On Lado A Lado B, the singer makes a concept album of this versatility, more thoroughly exploring avenues in salsa he’s visited before. The first half (Lado A) showcases his ability to embrace new currents: He chops it up with rappers Miky Woodz and Farina on urbana-styled tracks and purrs through new-school boleros. The second half (Lado B) asserts itself as the traditionalist side, with heavy Afro-Latin rhythms and aggressive horns, nodding reverently to salsa’s rowdy ’70s heyday. Both sides reveal a singer with plenty to express, even after 19 albums.
