EDITORS’ NOTES

The enduringly popular Sinaloa-based La Arrolladora Banda el Limón has roots dating back to the '60s, but this version of the ensemble has thrived under the direction of clarinetist René Camacho for some 20 years. While lineup changes over time have found the namesake bandleader surrounded by a noticeably younger set of singers and instrumentalists, there’s a timelessness here that lends itself well to both the banda’s robust brass sound as well as its overall image. Produced by Fernando Camacho, Labios Mentirosos (translation: Lying Lips) faithfully honors the banda’s signature romantic approach on regional Mexican and cumbia cuts including “Cedí” and “No Debemos Vernos.” On the standout single ”Indecisión,” the protagonist laments the strange state of a relationship that has him vexed and torn.
