EDITORS’ NOTES

It wouldn’t be right to title this comp The Very Best of Prince without a heavy dose of his household hits. That’s why it opens with his 1979 disco nugget “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” followed by the pre-Y2K anthem "1999." But it’s in the more energetic standouts like “Let’s Go Crazy” and “I Would Die 4 U” where we get a better glimpse of the man’s talent for crafting perfect pop. “When Doves Cry” serves as a reminder that Prince is also a stellar guitarist.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

Good introduction to Prince's career

This album would be the one to get if you are just starting to listen to Prince, since it only has the hits on it. Although this is by no means a summary of his career (nothing from "For You", "Dirty Mind", or "Controversy", and nothing after "Diamonds And Pearls"; missing "7" and "Batdance", his final two #1s, and "Pop Life", "Delirious", "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" (which isn't even available in the store), all top 10s; and many of the songs in their single edits due to time constraints), it's a good place to start. And besides, we finally have "Little Red Corvette" and "Purple Rain" on iTunes.

To the Princess guy

If you are not a fan, why even listen? Prince, happens to be one of the most prolific artist of the 21st century. You listen to his music because you can't help yourself. It's contagious. Instead of insulting a great artist, why not find out what the hype is all about? Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Still Got It

Where are today's pop wonders? I mean those that Write, Play & Produce ALL their own material? Give credit where credit is due..... Prince may be edgy and odd but he has inspired many to be the real deal...not just a "studio made" phony that we seem to hear so much from these days. Still one of the Best live shows period!
