EDITORS’ NOTES

On their first album in 14 years with returning vocalist/bassist Steve Tucker, Floridian extremity experts Morbid Angel rediscover death metal after 2011’s industrial-influenced Illud Divinum Insanus. Led by guitarist and founder Trey Azagthoth, the revamped band careens through an intense hellscape of rapid-fire riffs, whiplash-inducing arrangements, and swarming blast beats on “D.E.A.D,” “Garden of Disdain,” and “From the Hand of Kings,” while tracks like “Paradigms Warped,” “The Pillars Crumbling,” and “Declaring New Law” decelerate the relentless pace with grinding, mid-tempo grooves.

So much wrong with this album

I wanted to love this album. I am a fan of the Steve Tucker era too. I think FFttF, Gateways and Heritic are all great Morbid albums but this one is a hot mess. First off the production is attrocious. The guitars are inaudible, lost in a was of high mids. The drums are overpowering and Steve Tucker's vocals are not clear or interesting. The demos of this material sound better. If you doubt what I am saying I challange you to choose any other Morbid album, including the last album which was a train wreck, and compare the production. Kingdoms of Disdain is by far the worst sounding Morbid Angel album and the worst sounding death metal album to come out by a major player in years. They should be embarrased. Now on to the songs. In short, they are boring. There are no hooks. Nothing stands out. I had to listen to this album in small doses because the production is so bad it hurts my head. I am sorry but I can't see how anyone in their right mind could give this 5 stars. What are you on?

Classic morbid angel, heavy, unforgiving, and those drums... wow! This is the morbid angel I know and love.
