Editors’ Notes Blind Lemon Jefferson recorded only from 1926–29, but most of his milestones are conveniently compiled here. You can hear the Texas blues template falling into place as his keening tenor and darting guitar licks wrap around "Matchbox Blues." The doomy, downright scary "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" remains infinitely more haunting than the countless blues and rock cover versions it inspired. And Jefferson's fearless phrasing on "Corrina Blues" suggests that this iconic bluesman could have been a jazz player if he so desired.
