EDITORS’ NOTES

Mark Knopfler's voice sounds both subtle and rich on this folky, low-key solo LP. On the acoustic opener "True Love Never Fades," the Dire Straits frontman sings in a simple, expressive tone, as if each syllable has been contoured by a lifetime of romantic memories. "We Can Get Wild," on the other hand, is both ominous and unsettled, with reverberating guitar notes setting the scene against which Knopfler quietly muses about the dark clouds that seem to be gathering on the horizon.
