EDITORS’ NOTES

Genius of Time's Alexander Berg brings his richly mysterious house and techno to John Talabot's Hivern Discs label on his debut, Irrbloss. He plays with mournful Balkan melodies on the title track, and on "Votiv," echoing flutes give way to growling bass and a heady slow-motion groove; the percussive "Gloson" and "Gripen" are suffused in shadow, while "Insvept" and "Kassiopeia" boast sparkling melodies pitched midway between melancholy and quiet bliss. He shows off his rhythmic skills on "Sagofabrik," a knotty modular synth workout, while the gleaming "Cirkla" is as misty-eyed as techno gets.
