In a show of both technical and recording-studio wizardry, Daniil Trifonov plays both parts of his virtuosic two-piano arrangement of a track from a classic John Williams soundtrack. “Man of the House” from Home Alone is a brilliantly vivid musical tableau of the young Kevin enjoying his new-found freedom, his parents having forgotten to take him on holiday. “I played first one part and then overdubbed the other,” Trifonov tells Apple Music Classical. “Later in postproduction, those tracks were layered together, so technically it’s two pianos playing.” There’s a Prokofiev-style blend of the frenetic, mischievous, and lyrical in Williams’ music, which Trifonov highlights to superb effect.
