Though he’s a radio hitmaker, Chris Tomlin has built a legacy that rests on his expansion of the church’s songbook. His albums are loaded with songs guaranteed to ignite congregations, and Hello Love is no exception. Featuring Tomlin at his most electric, the album is built on slow-burning, U2-styled atmospherics (“Sing, Sing, Sing”) and vigorous, fist-pumping rock songs (“You Lifted Me Out”). “I Will Rise” is one of his best ballads, and “Love”—featuring a jubilant beat, children’s choir, and shades of Paul Simon—is his most delectable curveball.
