Dissonance at 120 db's.

Sonic Youth is brilliant in this live setting. Their songs take on more edge and urgency when the band lets loose. Sounds great!

Bittersweet

Great live recording, pre-the bitter end of Sonic life… This demonstrates how good the later albums would have been, if recorded with the energy, immediacy, and clarity of this live set. The studio recording (with video) stuck on the end of this, drops the energy level and mix quality to that of a (built in mic) cassette recorded home demo.
One would think this worth putting out as a physical release (or rather, I need to look out for keen iTunes sets like this one, more often). The band’s scandalous, unplanned ending, having (for their own good) split with Geffen for Matador and as evidenced here, upon a creative rebirth, is bittersweet.

Worth having, but...

Be aware that the Sacred Trickster video at the end is not live, but the official one made for the album version.
