ITAEWON CLASS (Original Television Soundtrack)

Right from the jump, the 2020 K-drama Itaewon Class draws you in immediately with so many “Why am I yelling at the screen?” moments that it’s hard to keep track. The soundtrack keeps pace, including the immediately recognizable show bumper “Start Over” and its “Whoa!” interjections. V from BTS contributes a resonant “Sweet Night,” which will get the most attention, as it should. But don't sleep on Lee Chan Sol’s superb cover of Ben Folds’ tribute to fatherhood (“Still Fighting it”), which straps ankle weights to the heavy original. Also, there's Sondia’s two tracks, “Maybe” and “Our Souls at Night,” which begin as piano pop then rise like the elevator at Lotte World Tower. The soundtrack is split into three sections: songs from the show, their instrumentals, and the score. For the latter, the soundtrack producers did the hard work for you, naming the tracks after the scenes they refer to. Cue up “You Think You Can Act Like a Jock Only Because You’re the Son of a Billionaire?” or “Don’t Feel Sorry When Eating Pork or Chicken” and relive the (K-)drama.
