EDITORS’ NOTES
The Baton Rouge rapper Kevin Gates has never been much for jokes. Earnest, unsparing, and intensely personal, his full-length major-label debut is a downcast trip through tales of the grind (“La Familia”) romantic woes (“Pride”), and the trials of balancing the two (“2 Phones”). He delivers it all with enough charm and hope to keep things from getting too dark or gritty. “Man in the mirror you way outta order,” he raps on “The Truth”—fitting words for an artist who named his album (and his daughter, for that matter) after an Arabic word meaning to improve.

Ratings and Reviews
Talented
He should just use his talents a bit more but some of it showed on the album
Worst album of 2015-16
Your average other people listen to this so will listen track, nothing compared to the other albums, the lyricism is so low you might have a donkey rapping, rn kendrick lamar is shaking his head
Very impressed!
I’m your average male, middle class, white dude and I listen to every genre. With that said I’m not usually current on all the popular rap albums and what not. This album however is a very rare gem. It reminds me of when The Game first came out with the Documentary.. It blew me away on a new level. Every single song was fire. Never had to skip a song because each one was single worthy. Gates delivers in exactly the same fashion. I have massive respect for this guy. Way to go!!! You’ve made it dude. Your hard work and perseverance has paid off because you produced an "A" quality album.
