This five-time GRAMMY® nominee (who backed George Harrison and Joni Mitchell, among others) merges various blues and R&B rhythms and styles into something that could be a modern-day Buddy Guy. The acoustic R&B shuffle of “Rose of Sharon” dovetails sweetly with the organ and dirty blues of “Cause of War.” Both tunes set a bustling tone that holds steady throughout this stunner of an album. Though there are A-list guests here (Warren Hayes, Sonny Landreth, and Keb’ Mo’), Ford doesn’t need ’em; his rep as a gifted guitarist, singer, and songwriter is absolutely warranted here.
