In Your Eyes (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
While Joss Whedon was busy finishing his mega-hit The Avengers, director Brin Hill was filming Whedon’s script for this unusual, intimately scaled bicoastal romantic comedy with a psychic twist for Joss and wife Kai Cole’s “micro studio,” Bellwether Pictures. With young composer Tony Morales handling the underscore (sampled here on “The Break Up”), Hill helped pick the film’s rich, eclectic slate of songs, with Whedon himself contributing the tongue-in-cheek R&B ballad “Crumblin’,” performed with earnest Anglo charm by Joss-pal Noah Maffit. The collection’s roots-consciousness spans upbeat Canadian country-folk (Montreal-based Andrew Johnston’s “Go Get Another Dream,” New Brunswick–born Matt Anderson’s “Fire It Up”), Ray Beadle’s Australian electric blues, and the vintage soul of Eddie Ray, seasoned with fine nouveau pop contributions from Iron & Wine/Samuel Beam, Santigold, Twinbed, and Opus Orange.
