Where once her music was shrouded in noise and coarse edges, Meg Remy’s sixth album as U.S. Girls is charged with seductive immediacy. In a Poem Unlimited serves up gliding disco (“M.A.H.”), sinuous soul (“Velvet 4 Sale”), and a blend of symphonic pop and shuffling beats (“Rosebud”). There’s a sharp bite to the lyrics though, and Remy unspools absorbing stories, dialogues, and allegories that tackle subjects ranging from domestic violence and abuses of power to U.S. foreign policy.
