Sonic Flower Groove Primal Scream
EDITORS’ NOTES
Primal Scream’s debut may seem a touch narrow and tame by the epoch-making standards they would eventually set but it’s still an important record. By brightening the jangle of UK indie-rock with flavours of ’60s West Coast pop, they plot a course that Teenage Fanclub and countless others would follow. In fact, the lysergic melody and self-assurance of “Imperial” is something The Stone Roses expand upon brilliantly on their own debut. And by anyone’s standards, “Gentle Tuesday” is first-rate psychedelic pop.
