4 Songs, 14 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

After coming together in their New Zealand hometown, Christchurch, to create two full-length albums, Kiwi outfit Yumi Zouma have returned to the EP series last visited in 2015, completing the trilogy with EP III. Like the previous two—and unlike their albums—these four dreamy synth-pop tracks were composed across international waters, with its four members scattered across London, New York, and Christchurch. They have summery melodies and gentle rhythms down to a fine art: Opener “Powder Blue / Cascine Park” couples rich, bassy synths with Christie Simpson’s dainty falsetto, and “Crush (It’s Late, Just Stay)”—born from a collaboration with Liam Finn—is a breezy, disco-inspired duet between Simpson and guitarist Josh Burgess.
