I started using the play-a-longs when they were first released in the 80's, upgraded to CD's, playing along with the rhythm sections on sax, and now using the mp3s and learning piano. Being able to download singles is even better. Although some musicians are critical because the songs are "metronomic" in that the essence of jazz involves interplay, for beginners who are not up to "sitting in" with other musicians, or having difficulty finding other musicians at your level, this approach is invaluable.

This album and "Blues in all Keys " are a must for beginners.

The convenience of not having to use a CD player is also a great convenience.
