Ty Rex

Ty Rex

On Ty Rex, the most prolific artist in garage rock takes a break from shredding faces for a sincere collection of T. Rex covers assembled from a Record Store Day EP, a follow-up 7-inch, and a previously unreleased bonus track. Segall doesn’t go full glam—there’s not a speck of glitter to be found here—but his reverence for Marc Bolan’s inimitable melodies is clear, if shrouded in Segall’s customary fuzz. “The Slider” is low-slung and blown out, “20th Century Boy” is a sleazy romp, and “Elemental Child” is cavernous and psychedelic.
