I Need Drugs

I Need Drugs

One of the most notorious figures in underground hip-hop, Necro is all about shocking you with blood-curdling tales of psychotic, murderous frenzy, off-the-wall pornographic adventures, and visits to the lowest depths of rock-bottom drug addiction. Throughout the late ‘90s, he dropped a gang of impressive 12-inch singles, inspiring both laughter and terror from his listeners. His rhyme style is heavily influenced by Kool G Rap, with ultra-layered lyrics and a machine-gun delivery that strains to fit as many words and rhymes as possible, while his beats are entirely self-produced, a hearty mix of Brooklyn boom-bap, unusual sample choices, and eerie, minor-key modulations. I Need Drugs compiles much of his early discography, including the title track, his take on LL's "I Need Love" inspired by his uncle's various addictions. Other winners include self-explanatory anthems "The Most Sadistic," "You're Dead," and "Rugged Sh*t." Like a rap Alice Cooper, or a white Brotha Lynch Hung, his style is definitely not for everybody, but if you're in the mood for completely over-the-top, mindbendingly twisted mayhem music, it doesn't get much better.
