I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now (Deluxe Edition)

Basically since the dawn of recording studios, master producers have set out to find compelling women to sing with the music they create. Got a Girl is one such entry from 2014, with San Francisco producer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura and movie star Mary Elizabeth Winstead providing us with cool style and pleasant tunes. Nakamura’s previous production credits include Kool Keith/Dr. Octagon and Gorillaz, plus his band affiliations with Handsome Boy Modeling School, Lovage, and Deltron 3030. Winstead is known for films such as Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, The Spectacular Now, and Kill the Messenger. When they're together, Winstead’s allowed to be Françoise Hardy while Nakamura adds modern, steady beats to French pop, psychedelic James Bond–style film music, and orchestral pop. “Did We Live Too Fast” is played with a retro wink. “Everywhere I Go” builds atmosphere to Winstead’s gentle coo. “There’s a Revolution” plays up the kitsch factor. “Things Will Never Be the Same” throws a hip-hop beat into Bond-type tension. “Heavenly” turns into pure seduction.
