26 Songs, 1 Hour 25 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Jack White made his name as a garage rocker, but he’s just as comfortable around the campfire, and this 26-song collection showcases his deep acoustic catalog. But where hushed lullabies like “We’re Going to Be Friends” once served an important respite function in the White Stripes' repertoire, White’s solo work has used folk-song forms as the foundation for a more elaborate vision: Strumming atop jaunty piano rolls, he belts out “I Guess I Should Go to Sleep” with all the gusto of a Broadway show tune.

I guess I was deceived a little...

Maybe I should have read the description a little better… But this isn’t an album of White Stripes and Jack White acoustic covers, it’s just a compilation of his acoustic stuff throughout the years, with a handful of remixed tracks and some unreleased stuff. But the majority of the songs are things Jack White fans should already own.

So… If you already have most or all of Jack White’s catalogue, then there’s no need to buy this full album. If you are new to Jack White, sure this is a good collection. I need to read things better.

PREPARE TO BE MISLED

A better name for this album would've been Greatest Hits 1998 - 2016. Most of the songs are NOT acoustic. There are only 2 previously released tracks, both of which were released before the album came out. I did find it to be a great collection of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and solo Jack. It just wasn't what I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed. I would recommend it, but only if you understand that it's mostly just a greatest hits compilation.

disappointing! An Obvious Material Recycle, Cash-In

I love Jack White's music, I always have. Naturally I was excited to hear about this record of acoustic tunes! I thought it'd be almost like a studio version of an MTV unplugged session with Jack playing some covers and even old white stripes songs on acoustic...BUT, it's simply just the mellower songs from his previous albums (same exact versions, pulled from those albums) compiled onto one playlist. In fact, I could have made 97% of this album as a playlist years ago and saved myself a few bucks. I was disappointed. This was clearly made as a way to recycle his old material and put 1 new track on it and charge $18.99. I mean, Yea, the songs are good...but i thought they were good when I heard them for the first time 15 years ago. Times must be getting hard for Jack.
