EDITORS’ NOTES

Over the wrought-iron synths and hard-knocking 808s that blare throughout I Empty Pistols, Q Da Fool spits harsh, reality-grounded raps with an intimidating, offbeat flow. He lives up to the raw violence promised by the album’s title with his boasts about shooting up cars on the screwy beat of “Hitta” and goads his enemies over the pounding bassline of “Foreva.” On “Tell,” though, his voice takes on a more vulnerable, bleached-out tone as he reveals the pain that lies beneath the gangsta posturing.
