EDITORS’ NOTES

Dio’s 1983 debut is an immaculate marriage of operatic vocals, fantasy storytelling, and NWOBHM-style energy. Fresh off stints with Rainbow and Black Sabbath, he carries over his obsession with the eternal struggle between good and evil. As “Caught in the Middle” implies, it’s a struggle from which the vocal powerhouse can never escape. And while guitarist Vivian Campbell was still an up-and-comer at the time, he shreds all over the album, especially on the smoking “Don’t Talk to Strangers.”

Dio rocks!!!!!

I have always been a big Alice Cooper fan but the more I expanded my rock/metal collection I found that dio is essential to it. Insane vocals and amazing riffs combine to make totally addicting songs that you can listen to over and over for hours on end and never get tired of them. This is definitely their best album. Holy diver and rainbow in the dark are some of the most iconic dio songs and caught in the middle is my personal favorite dio song. This is definitely a classic album that will be cherished for generations and go down in metal history. Rest in peace Ronnie rest in peace

Fantastic Album

Simply a fantastic hard rock/metal album. Dio’s vocals are unmatched in this genre. Tough, mean, operatic, but also works well with harmonies. Vivian Campbell’s guitar work is incredible. Super solos and solid rhythm work. Most metal fans will recognize Holy Diver and Rainbow in the Dark but this album is filled with excellent rocking tunes. Stand Up and Shout kicks it all off followed by the title track. Gypsy and Don’t Talk to Strangers keep it going along with Straight Through the Heart. Get this album. You won’t be disappointed.
