Joe Diffie’s sudden death from COVID-19 in 2020 sent shockwaves of grief through the country music community. Diffie, who was known as much for his famous hairstyles as he was for his playful songwriting, influenced many of the current crop of country stars with ’90s hits like “Pickup Man” and “Better Than the Beatles.” For the third installment of his HIXTAPE series, HARDY rounded up a handful of famous friends to pay tribute to the late singer-songwriter, covering some of his best-loved songs as well as some of his unreleased recordings. Highlights include Darius Rucker and Hailey Whitters taking on Diffie’s 1990 debut single, “Home,” as well as the unreleased original song “Life Had Plans for Me,” which features Diffie’s son, Parker Diffie. The emotional compilation is timed to the fourth anniversary of Diffie’s passing, with the late star’s estate helping shape the final project.
