EDITORS’ NOTES

Having freed himself from the pressures of leading one of the emo revival's most successful bands, former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way debuts with a solo album that sounds distinctly liberated. There's hardly any MCR-style music here, but there's a ton of everything else: '70s glam rock ("Get the Gang Together"), '80s indie rock ("Juarez"), '90s Britpop ("Millions"). While tunes like "Action Cat" show that Way can still craft a great hook, others such as the fuzz-bomb "Zero Zero" demonstrate his eagerness to explore new sounds. Heck, "Drugstore Perfume" is soaring shoegaze. Hesitant Alien is a bold next step.

The blissful Chem Rocker is back~!

I SERIOUSLY CANNOT WAIT for this record to come out. Gerard is back, happier than ever, and this album retains that happy/colorful vibe that My Chem had at the end of its run with Danger Days. Britpop is present in the slow rocker "No Shows" and "Action Cat" is just a long time favorite by now! I am definetely not hesitating on buying this! You shouldn't either!!!!!! :D

Beyond excited

I am extremely and tear-jerkingly excited to hear Gerard Way's new album. I've loved him since Bullets, and I will always support him and his singing career. No Shows is a brilliant piece, and I can't wait to hear more.

Something's not quite right

Obviously if you're checking out this album this far in advance you're hoping to hear remnants of MCR in this album...you're not gonna get it - more electronic and more "wall of sound" than anything he's done before, it's definitely a different vibe, and the two songs out right now don't compel me to listen further - they don't have a rise and fall - they don't "go" anywhere. I gave it three stars becaue Gerard's voice and lyrics are constantly amazing, but the instrumentation and production is lackluster.
