Editors’ Notes The second installment of Bowie's legendary Berlin trilogy, Heroes is thrillingly iconoclastic even by the singer's own standards. Stormy guitar riffs border on chaos, offset by sleek, angular futurism. Bowie's emotion-wracked vocal and Robert Fripp's soaring guitar make the galvanizing crunch of the title track a transcendent experience, while the second half is dominated by impressionistic, ambient instrumentals with sci-fi synthesizer contributions from Brian Eno. Throughout, Bowie sounds like he's inventing his own musical language note by note, and it's fascinating to hear it unfold.
