EDITORS’ NOTES

Just days before Troy Gentry passed away in a tragic helicopter accident in 2017, he and longtime musical partner Eddie Montgomery wrapped this album, their ninth in a 20-year career. It feels fitting, then, that Here’s to You sounds like some of their earliest cuts from Tattoos & Scars: raw, rollicking, laced with witty one-liners. The subjects are also classic Montgomery Gentry—there are bar anthems ( “Drink Along Song”), freedom tributes (“That’s the Thing About America”), and odes to small-town values (“Get Down South”). Be sure to listen to “Better Me,” a brave, tear-jerking ballad about picking yourself up that Gentry brings home beautifully.

This song speaks the truth and it’s so heartfelt, I love ❤️ the solo by T-Roy, and he will be dearly missed.
