Could have been more

I am a huge fan, and have been for thirty+ years. This isn't so much an album, in my opinion, as it is an extended EP. Track 2 and 7 (Like a lady/Ladylike) are literally the same song(lyrics), but completely different -albeit great- arrangements. A few songs are a bit scarce on lyrics, inlcuding Like Sugar (which features a killer groove) and feel more like a 'featuring chaka khan' as opposed to her own song. 'Too Hot' reminds me of Amy Weinheouse, somehow, but is a standout, and absolutely perfect. Chaka is in top form, vocally, and sounds amazing, but in my opinion 'Hello Happiness' doesn't come close to 'Funk This', her last full release. I sure hope that Joni Mitchell tribute album we've been hearing about for 2 years ever sees the light of day.

Ugh...no.

I love you, Chaka, but this is not a record worthy of you. Two Stars because it's you. Anyone else would get none! I know Arif Mardin is no longer with us but Quincy is still here. You need a great producer and great songs, which these are not.

Queen Of Funk

The Queen Of Funk is gracing us once again with vocals that cannot be matched. We are so lucky that we have artists like this to give us some kind of joy in a world that makes no sense.
