On their full-length debut, London’s Fanfarlo deliver a gorgeous collection of orchestral baroque pop. “I’m a Pilot” opens with a beat forged from an organic ambience of recorded sounds (heavy chains dropped on wood and what sounds like boxes of books hitting the floor) before piano and bass seep in under violins, glockenspiel, and Simon Balthazar’s crooning. The uplifting drive of “Luna” makes for a universally accessible dance floor jam, and "Ghosts" is very danceable as well. “The Walls Are Coming Down” uses “matadorian” horns and plucked strings, and the pedaling “Drowning Men” is a rousing highlight. The deluxe version boasts four bonus tracks, including the lilting, effervescent “Hands” and the anthemic “Sand & Ice."
