His later years are the best. Great vocals. This albulm is a sleeper. Underappreciated. He is truly a non conformist.

True and great

A honest, soulful re-interpretation of Hank William songs. Six More Miles is a brilliant, simple distillation of grief and despair in song. Long Gone Daddy is a rough, bitter remake with truly atmospheric guitar. A virtuoso tribute to the originals while undeniably Matt Johnson. I wish The The would return to something like these personal, pained poems which are furtive ground poorly tilled in music today.

Stands the test of time...

Like Hank Williams timeless classics, I keep returning to listen...
Of course Hank I is where everyone should start and stay, but...
I never like covers albums, but there is an intimate setting here. The spoken/sung lyrics by Matt Johnson brings Hank's words home. Maybe two songs are not quite there, but this really is a classic album that ends with a beautiful, sad, ghostly wind.
