EDITORS’ NOTES

With Dwight Yoakam's 1986 debut album, country music's neo-traditionalist movement exploded into the public consciousness. Besides injecting old-school classics like Johnny Horton’s "Honky Tonk Man" and Johnny Cash’s "Ring of Fire" with a touch of rock 'n' roll spirit, he also showed that he could pen his own equally worthy tunes. The title track shuffles along on a Ray Price-style boogie, while the Maria McKee-featuring “Bury Me” combines bluegrass with rockabilly, and “South of Cincinnati” would be at home in any tearstained barroom.

One of the Greatest Country albums - EVER!

I will never forget the day I heard "Honky Tonk Man" on the radio back in 1986. I went straight to the record store and bought this album. The remastered version is a must have. 10 demos plus the live album. Hope Dwight does the same for Hillbilly Deluxe!

Brings back some memories

I can remember having this album when I was a little kid. It was all I would listen to and it drove my parents nuts.

I HATE country music...and Dwight is fantastic!

I can't stand to hear country music, but I have loved Dwight's music since the first time I heard "Honky Tonk Man" way back in the '80's. I'd rather listen to Stone Sour, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Soundgarden, or something raw and thrashy then listen to country music, but Dwight's voice just does something to my ears nobody else in country music can do. He manages to capture my interest and almost sound country with a punk edge...and that doesn't describe it accurately.

I don't know what it is, but I love this album. One of my top 10 all time favorites. Buy it or you are a music moron.

Be a moron, buy it anyway.
