Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) [Remastered]

When the Dead released their first live album, 1969's Live/Dead, they were all about the heady jams. But two years later, they had already transitioned to a folkier, more rootsy sound, which this live release exquisitely captures. The band pepper the set with covers, dipping into outlaw country (Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried") and old-school rock 'n' roll (Chuck Berry’s "Johnny B. Goode"), but their self-penned rocker “Bertha” shows the Dead’s newfound knack for creating concise, earthy tunes of their own.
