12 Songs, 46 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

With the triumphant Fun. on hiatus, vocalist Nate Ruess strikes out on his own. Produced by Jeff Bhasker (who helmed Fun.’s Some Nights and Kanye West’s similarly gargantuan My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy), Grand Romantic is just as its title suggests: A bearhug of a pop album that’s by turns tough, tender, and cathartically sincere. Ruess’ solo debut recalls everything from doo-wop slowdances (“Take It Back”) to stomping pop-punk (“AhHa”) to '70s-style power ballads muscular enough to make Queen blush (“Great Big Storm”).

Nothing Without Love ,

Heard the entire album - genius

To AmnOakland who has time to down rate the 4 available songs with one star because the entire albums wasn't available to listen to, first idea, remove the smiley face and replace w/ common sense, rate the 4 available songs. Second idea listen to the album it's available to stream through MTV. So not clever of you. I'm think this is the most amazing album I have ever heard. I was crushed when I realized Bleachers was Jack Antonoff. His album was excellent, lyrically and vocally very unique sound, but I can't get enough of Nate Ruess and that voice!!! No Jack, no Fun. And then there was I Am Nothing Without Love, and all was as it should be, I hope Fun. collaborates again really really soon, more Nate Ruess in a different form is the only thing that would make Grand Romantic better. I can't believe anything better than Fun. was possible, but Grand Romantic is absolutely brilliant. His voice is amazing, You can hear the progression of his vocal abilities with each album and he had achieved perfection with his first solo project. His lyrics are so moving, the emotion he puts into his music is palpable. Every song gets 5 stars from me. If it's not the kind of music you like, you won't like this, but don't disrespect the hard work of any artist with a stupid comment and a low rating. AmnOakland, if you do like Nate's style of music and think this is a one star album, you have bad taste in music, stick to what KIIS tells you to listen to. There are no tracks to skip it was such a great surprise to find out I could hear the album. It literally has made my day, I can't wait into he gets to my city on his tour, it doesn't get any better than this. Great job Nate 😀

Grand romantic will be fire

I can already tell as a Nate ruess fan this is going to be one of the best albums of the year

digimanu ,

This is what a real singer sounds like!

This guy reminds me of a time when music was amazing, filled with emotion, and not about the current mainstream agenda that sex sells. You don't hear too many male singers willing to sing like Nate these days, but if you ever take a listen to some real old school music, it was heard all the time. For those saying he sounds strained and should "stay in his range," they obviously do not know what his range is or even know what a vocal range means. This guy is truly talented, and I am impressed on how he sticks to his sound and does not try to follow what other mainstream artists are doing. If you are opened minded about sound then give this a try, but if you are only interested in hearing the same mainstream stuff over-and-over again then this album is not for you.
