GRAND PIANO is Thrilling!

I am a concert pianist myself. I have performed quite a bit of Hollywood Cinema Piano concerti including: Concerto Macabre (from Hangover Square) by Bernard Hermann, Concerto (from Night Song) by Leith Stevens, all the George Gershwin works, and Leroy Anderson's Piano Concerto in C. Victor Reyes does a marvelous job with his original concerto for GRAND PIANO. It waivers between romantic serenity, and extremely tense agitation. I love how he quotes the 3rd mvt of Tchaikovsky's concerto in Bb min, and one can here reminiscence of Bernard Hermann's scores as well as sweeping film thriller suspense. It is no easy task to write a concerto that not only carries the story and suspense but compliments the dialogue and drama as well as stands as a concert work on it's own. I truly feel this is a modern masterpiece. I might also add Elijah Wood is truly an amazing actor.. his keyboard choreography is stunning.. and I haven't seen a movie so convincing .. since Amy Irving simulated performance of Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto in The Competition. I would want to learn this concerto myself if it was print. I wasn't really familiar with Reye's other movies.. until Grand Piano.. but I hope to see him write more fantastic scores like this one.
