'She Makes Me Laugh' is the first single from The Monkees upcoming new album 'Good Times!', and it's a winner. Written for the group by Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, the song is reminiscent of the early fun of the Monkees music. The jangling guitars associated with the Monkees sound are very prominent giving it a very retro 60's feel and faithfully captures that sound beautifully. Micky Dolenz's vocals are very strong with wonderful background vocals by Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith, further enhancing the song. The single is very catchy and should appeal to fans of the Monkees and those who love great Pop tunes. This song wets the appetite for the new album and is an excellent first sample of 'Good Times' coming!

An Unexpected Treasure

Of the 3 tracks heard so far, this looks to be a very strong release for the 50th Anniversary of The Monkees. A return to form if you will, they have employed the works of tremendous song writers, mixed in a few of there own and somehow managed to recapture glory ( so far through 3 Songs) that truly hasn't been felt since Headquarters. I'm particularly fond of Me & Magdelana which is a Nesmith tune featuring a duet with Dolenz. It isn't as pop-tastic as She Makes Me Laugh (Rivers Cuomo) and You Bring the Summer (Andy Partridge) but I always enjoyed the You Told Me's and Sweet Young Thing's tucked like hidden gems amongst the big pop hits..if the remaining tracks follow suit Good Times will be regarded as the perfect cap to what has been an incredible career. I'm nervous about Love to Love (Neil Diamond) with Davy on lead, it's touchy terrain to navigate the waters of posthumous recordings, I'm glad they included Jones on this album, and hopefully It's more Real Love than Free as a Bird...May 27 can't get here soon enough...thanks for 50 years of joy Monkees...you are Hall of Famers to us
