Editors’ Notes After working with some of the biggest acts in Christian and worship music, writer-producer Ed Cash assembled his own multigenerational family band, We The Kingdom, that gained instant notice with its debut live EP in 2019. The group has brought songwriting and studio know-how and a billowing co-ed vocal sound to its debut album, Holy Water. The first line of the album opener “Cages” establishes an emphasis on soul-baring: “What if I got real honest?” That’s one of several propulsive, anthemic tracks on which the urgency of the vocals swells from brooding to burning. We The Kingdom moves through varied impassioned-sounding musical modes, applying digital sheen to gospelly roots rock in the title track and “Child of Love,” summoning defiance on “Don’t Tread on Me” and vulnerability on quieter tracks like “No Doubt About It” and “SOS.”
