Go! - Common Classics

Go! - Common Classics

From his early, No I.D.-produced material through his crossover breakthroughs and GRAMMY-nominated singles, Chicago MC Common has had a long and industrious career, dropping eight quality albums and several certified classics between 1992 and 2008. Though he has also expanded his empire into film, television, and commercials, music remains his foundation, while his smooth, mellifluous voice and wordy, sophisticated lyricism continue to define his style on the mic. This 13-track compilation is his first official hits package, focusing on the later (and more commercially successful) half of his catalog. Standout selections include the Kanye collaborations "Go!" and "The People," mid-tempo neck-breaker "The Corner," and "Love of My Life (An Ode To Hip Hop)" featuring Erykah Badu. The only real downside is the conspicuous lack of older tracks such as "I Used To Love H.E.R." and "Resurrection." Regardless, it's a solid mix from one of hip-hop's most compelling voices.
