Sometimes the darkness is your friend…

I have had this album for years and listen to it often. It has some of my favorite and most of moving Bruce lyrics.

Sunset is an angel weeping, holding out a bloody sword

I've proven who I am so many times, the magnetic strip's worn thin; each time I was someone else and everyone was taken in

Sometimes the road leads through dark places; sometimes the darkness is your friend

My favorites: pacing the cage, the whole night sky, get up Jonah, night train, live on my mind

I would take this to the Desert

If I were to be stuck on a Desert Island,I would take this Marveleous,thought-provoking Album with me.

Playable over and over without boredom

This is by far my favorite Cockburn album. The songs are complex and amazingly well crafted. The bass on this album alone is worth the price of admission. Each song is a novel in itself and could be expanded into either a documentary or short feature. Lyrics are involving and highly evocative. The instrumental pieces are elegant and extremely well-crafted. What I find surprising is that this album doesn't seem to be recognized for the genius it contains. It's probably the most integrated series of songs that go very well together as a whole statement, even though the subject matter in each is very different. If you want a single Bruce Cockburn album, choose this one and you shouldn't be disappointed. It's an album that can be played back to back many times without becoming cloying or annoying. Highly recommended.
