Garfunkel

Garfunkel

Art Garfunkel’s solo output is probably best-served by an anthology like this 1988 release. The collection shows how scintillating his crystal-clear tenor can sound when applied to the right ballad — the pop arias “All I Know” and “Second Avenue” are particularly soul-stirring examples. His way with more intimate romantic material is shown to advantage in “99 Miles From L.A” and “I Only Have Eyes For You.” Jimmy Webb’s “Scissors Cut,” a slice of urbane angst, fits Garfunkel’s style nicely. There are enough high points here to make Garfunkel worth hearing for those who appreciate his exquisite voice (if not all of his career moves).
