Forward Motion Godyssey

Post Animal takes the “go big or go home” adage to heart on their second LP. Inspired by a recording retreat in Big Sky, Montana, the Chicago five-piece creates a lush, larger-than-life sound that suits the vistas. With each of the members sharing singing and songwriting duties, the band goes on an existential musical journey that expands upon their psych-rock roots. The doom-laden “In a Paradise” and “Damaged Goods” are heavy and sludgy, while on “Schedule” and “How Do You Feel,” they delve into matters of the heart over chilled-out R&B, aiming for a crossover sound akin to Tame Impala. On the spacey “Your Life Away,” they take a break from all the ruminating: “Life’s a lot of sleeping though/I’ll get some problems resolved in my dreams.”
