Cannot Hold A Candle to Nothing's Real

This is a very sad follow up to the extraordinary and dynamic Nothing's Real. On this album Shura has accelerated her attempt to channel the R&B vibe which was present but not overwhelming on the previous album. The result is an unsatisfying farrago of Disco, Sonic the Hedgehog synthesizers, and B-Grade R&B. Not only is the style of the music far less enjoyable and far less successful in execution, but it sounds much thinner as well. The layers that made the previous songs so rich and transportive feel like a first pass, almost as if in affected faux retro immitation of 80's and early 90's production. This album, I am sad to say, feels half-hearted and corny.
